Cold

Common Name The Wolf Head Lepanthes [refers to the shape of the petals]

Flower Size .20" [5mm]

Found in Colombia and Ecuador in wet cloud forests at elevations around 1600 to 2700 meters as a mini-miniature sized, cool to cold growing epiphyte with erect, slender ramicauls enveloped by 4 to 5, microscopically cilate, lepanthiform sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, margined, miniutely erose, elliptical, subacute, cuneate below into the petiolate base leaf that blooms in the winter on a congested, distichous, .24" [6 mm] long, successively few flowered inflorescence arising on the back of the leaf.

"This tiny species is distinguished by the elliptical leaves with erose margins and a proportionally large red flower borne on a congested raceme shorter than the leaf. The margins of the sepals are denticulate. The apices of the lateraks are contracted into short tails. The apices of the blades of the lip are broadly subtruncate while the bases are acute and erect. The appendix is represented by a mass of long hairs. The column is slender with an apical anther and a transversely bilobed stigma similar to those seen in many species of Pleurothallis and most species within stelis." Luer 1996
