Common Name The Wide-Leafed Liparis - In China Kuan Ye Yang Er Suan

Flower Size to about 3/4" [about 2 cm]

This cute, medium sized terrestrial is from lowlands, hillforest, rain forests and lower montane forests from 200 to 1700 meters in elevation and is found from Sabah, China [Hainan], penisular Malaysia, Thailand, Sumatra, Java, Borneo, Timor, the Philippines and New Guinea. It has clustered, fleshy, conical, somewhat bilaterally compressed, pale green aging to pale yellow pseudobulbs with 1 to 2, large red brown basal sheaths and carries a single, apical, oblanceolate, acute to subacute, fleshy leaf that is channeled towards the base and blooms in the spring and summer on an erect to arching, to 12" [30 cm] long, terete, many flowered, in a more or less dense, cylindrical raceme with several lanceolate, sterile bracts and spreading, lanceolate, acuminate, flesh-colored floral bracts carrying variable flowers in size and color and likes semi-shade and hot to warm temperatures.
