Found in Java at elevations of 250 to 1800 meters as a miniature sized, monopodial, cool to hot growing epiphytic orchid with semi-pendulous stems with the apex turned upwards carrying 4 to 6, stiff, violet suffused, undulate margins, very unequal apically leaves that blooms in the fall on slowly lengthening to 6" [15 cm] long, several flowered inflorescence with 3 to 4 flower open at any one time. Differs from the similar M witteana in the much narrower spur of the lip
