Found in Colombia, Ecuador and Peru as a small sized, cold to warm growing epiphyte at elevations of 1500 to 2800 meters with slender, erect, blackish ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3 loose, tubular sheaths carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, narrowly elliptical, acute to subacute leaf that gradually narrows below into the indistinctly petiolate base and blooms in the fall and spring on a slender, suberect, ascending or pendant, purple spotted, single flowered inflorescence arising from low on the ramicaul with a bract near the base and a tubular floral bract
