Common Name The Scarlet Masdevallia

Flower Size 1 1/2 to 3" [3.5 to 7.5 cm]

Found in Colombia and Peru as a cold growing terrestrial on sides of rocky cliffs with erect leaves that is found at elevations of 2400 to 2800 meters and blooms in the spring with short ramicauls enveloped by 2 to 3 close, tubular sheaths carrying a single, apical, oblong-lanceolate to spathulate, petiolate, rounded and minutely tridentate apically leaf that blooms on a slender, erect, to 12" [30 cm] long, slightly flexous, single flowered, inflorescence with a spotted bract at each node and the waxy, variable sized flowers held higher than the leaves.
