Common Name Rodolfo's Masdevallia - Rudolph Stumpfle [German Orchid Collector late 20th century]

Flower Size 2/4" [2 cm]

Found in Peru in very wet montane forests at elevations of 1800 to 1850 meters as a miniature, caespitose, cool growing epiphyte with a minute, inconspicuous ramicaul enveloped basally by 2 to 3 tubular sheaths with a single, apical, erect, elliptic, oblong-obovate, spatulate, elongate channeled petiole, coriaceous, very dark green leaf with a tridenticulate apex and blooms on an ascending to horizontal, 1/2 to 1" [1.25 to 2.5 cm] long, slender inflorescence arising from low on the ramicaul with a single, basal, infundibuliform bract and a small, tubular floral bract with the single flower held below the leaves occuring in nature in the spring.

Yellow flowers tinted pale rose, petals that are twice keeled and the strongly reflexed tails of the sepals separate this species from the others.
