Common Name Schroeder's Masdevallia [English baron and Orchid Enthusiast 1800's]

Flower Size 1 1/2" [3.5 to 4 cm]

A miniature to small sized, densly tufted, Costa Rican species found at 1400 to 2200 meters that has stout erect ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3 loose tubular sheaths carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, oblanceolate, petiolate, mintuely tridentate apically leaf that gradually narrows into the petiole blooming on an erect, to 8 1/5" [to 21 cm] long, solitary flowered inflorescence arising from low on the ramicaul with a bract near the base and a tubular floral bract carrying the flowers at leaf height and occuring in the winter and summer. A cold loving species that can be given constant moisture, moderate shade, and good air circulation.
