Common Name Valencias' Masdevallia [Colombian Orchid Enthusiast 1900's]
Flower Size 2" [5 cm]
Found in Norte de Santander Colombia in cloud forests at an elevation of 2900 meters and is a miniature to small sized, cold growing epiphyte occuring in cloud forests with blackish, erect, slender ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3 loose tubular sheaths carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, elliptical-obovate, subacute leaf that is cuneate below into the petiole and blooms in the spring on a slender, erect to suberect, 1 2/5" to 1 3/5" [3.5 to 4 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence arising from low on the ramicaul with a bract near the base and a tubular floral bract carrying the flower below the leaf.
