Flower Size 3/4" [2 cm]

This small sized species is found in Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Costa Rica, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela, Leward Islands and Trinidad and Tobago from 190 to 2300 meters as a hot to warm growing epiphyte in wet montane forests with small, oblong-elliptic, complanate pseudobulbs subtended by several scarious bracts and has a single apical, linear, acute leaf that is tapered to the conduplicate base and flowers in the winter and spring on a basal, short, erect to pendant, 1 1/2" [4 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence arising on a mature pseudobulb with the floral bract tubular and the flowers held below the leaves. It is found from the Caribbean and Mexico and may be a synonym of Maxillaria rufescens Lindley but can be separated by the conspicuous acuminate leaves, the sepals and petals acuminate-lanceolate instead of elliptic, and the short, triangular callus in the center of the lip.
