Common Name The Light Fox-Red Maxillaria

Flower Size up to 1 1/4" [3 to 4 cm]

Found in Guatemala, Belize, Leewards, Trinidad & Tobago, French Guiana, Surinam, Guyana, Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and Brazil found on trees in wet tropical dense forests at elevations around 200 to 2000 meters as a wide ranging, small to medium sized, hot to cool growing, unifoliate, bracteate, pseudobulbous epiphyte with proximate, cylindrical to ellipsoidal, compressed, 4 angled pseudobulbs subtended by several, imbricate, distichous, membraneous sheaths and carrying a single, apical, sessile or shortly petiolate, narrowly elliptic, elliptic-oblong or lanceolate, coriaceous, acute leaf that blooms at any time of the year from a basal, erect, 1 to 2" [ 2.2 to 5cm] long, single flowered inflorescence arising from a mature pseudobulb that carries a campanulate, fragrant, vanila scented flower that is held a mid leaf height.

A fairly common easier growing species requiring moderate shade, humid conditions and regular waterings.
