Common Name Tonsberg's Maxillaria [American Cultivator of the species current]
Flower Size 3" [7.5 cm]
Found in Venezuela? without locality as a large sized, cool growing? epiphyte? with obliquely ellipsoid, compressed pseudobulbs subtended by a pair of papery bracts that are somewhat longer than the pseudobulb and carrying ligulate, acute, petiolate base leaves that blooms on peduncle with inflated, tubular bracts, short to 6" [15 cm] long single flowered inflorescence with subsimilar, obovate, acute, subequal to the ovary floral bracts and carrying showy, coriaceous flowers.
Similar species include M colorata, M microtricha, M nigrescens and M niessenae.
