Common Name Londesborough's Mesoglossum [Englsih Lord and Orchid Enthusiast 1800's]

Flower Size to 2" [to 5 cm]

This medium to large sized, cool to warm growing, lithophytic or terrestrial species with deciduous leaves is from Guerrero State, Mexico at 100o to 1200 meters in elevation, near Chilpancingo, growing on cliffs in full sun with ovoid, bilaterally compressed, olive green pseudobulbs enveloped baasally by 2 pairs of foliaceous sheaths and carrying 2 to 3 apical, linear-lanceolate, acute leaves that are deciduous after flowering. It flowers in fall and has a basal, erect, to 6' [180 cm] long, racemose or few branched, many [15 to 30] flowered towards the apex, inflorescence subtended by several sheaths and the long-lasting flowers are arranged alternately on the rachis, deciduous in late spring.
