Found in Colombia, Venezuela and Peru in rainforests at elevations of 2200 to 2750 meters as a small to medium sized, cool to cold growing epiphyte in wet montane forests with ovoid to ellipsoid, purple spotted psuedobulbs enveloped basally by several pairs of distichous, imbricating sheaths with the uppermost being leaf-bearing carrying 2 [most often] apical, oblong to linear-lanceolate, acute leaves and blooms in the winter on an ascending or arching, 8" [20 cm] long, racemose or paniculate, inflorescence with fragrant, small flowers arising on a newly maturing pseudobulb.
