Common Name The Outstanding Cyrtochilum
Flower Size 3 to 3 1/2" [7.5 to 9 cm]
Found in Colombia, Venezuela and Peru in cloud forests at elevations of 2300 to 4000 meters as a large sized, cold to cool growing epiphyte with conical, compressed pseudobulbs subtended by several laef bearing sheaths with oblong-ligulate, broadly linear or oblanceolate, acute leaves that blooms on a flexuose, 4 to 8' [120 to 240 cm] long, branched at irregular intervals, the branches short to 6" [15 cm], twining, few flowered inflorescence with large boat-shaped bracts occuring in the winter and spring.
Often cited as C aemulum [ C halteratum is most likely the correct name as it was published as Oncidium halteratum in 1845 and O superbiens was published in 1849] but they are all very similar except for minor differences in the calli on the lip.
