Found in Shaanxi, southern Gansu, Zhejiang, northern Fujian, Taiwan, Hubei and Sichuan provinces of China in forests or in thickets along ravines at elevations of 700 to 2600 meters as a small to just medium sized cold growing terrestrial with underground and joined to a short rhizome, ellipsoid to subglobose, 2 to 3 noded pseudobulbs giving rise to 2 or rarely 1, linear-lanceolate to linear, chartaceous, petiolate base leaves that blooms in the later spring on a lateral, erect, 8 to 12" [20 to 30 cm] long, racemose, .8 to 2.4" [2 to 6 cm] long, to 10 flowered inflorescence
