Found in Western Himalayas, lower India, Bangladesh, Assam India eastern Himalayas, Nepal, Bhutan, China, Andaman Islands, Myanamar, Thailand, Malaysia, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Borneo, Java, Lesser Sunda Islands, Moluccas, the Philippines, Sulawesi, Sumatra, New Guinea, Northern Territories and Queensland Australia and New Caledonia at elevations of 50 to 1800 meters in lowlands, grasslands and in dry rice fields as a medium to large sized, hot to warm growing terestrial with under ground tubers giving rise to narrowly linear, longitudinally folded leaves that blooms in the winter and spring with out them on a direct from the tubers, often more than one per, 26 to 32" [40 to 80 cm] long, 10 to 20 flowered inflorescence with many lanceolate, acute sheaths and linear, acute floral bracts.
