Common Name Moquette's Paphiopedilum [Javanese Orchid Enthusiast]

Often cited as Paphiopedilum glaucophyllum var. moquetteanum J.J. Sm., this orchid has attained species status currently. It is found in SW Java at elevations around 300 meters on steep cliff faces as a small to medium sized, hot to warm growing terrestrial/lithophyte with 4 to 6, glaucous, narrowly oblong-elliptic leaves with ciliate basal margins and blooms from the spring through summer on a pubescent, dark green mottled dark purple, to 1 1/2' [40 cm] long, inflorescence carrying elliptic to ovate floral bracts with many [to 20] successive opening flowers with never more than 2 open at a time and occurs over months.
