Common Name The Charming Paphiopedilum

Flower Size to 3 1/2" [9 cm]

A medium sized, late winter and spring bloomer on an erect, terminal, 5" [12 cm] long, deep purple, pubescent inflorescence with a elliptic-lanceolate floral bract carrying a solitary flower from Assam India, NE Bangladesh, the eastern Himalayas, Bhutan, Nepal and Yunnan China at elevations of 1000 to 1500 meters at the base of cliffs in humus or in dense undergrowth or bamboo thickets, as well as in the crotch of trees with leaf deitrius that grows as a cold to warm, shade loving terrestrial with narrowly elliptic, mottled bluish and lighter green leaves that are purple beneath which needs humid, well watered conditions year round.
