Found in the Western Himalayas, Assam, Nepal, Laos and Thailand in evergreen broadleaved forests, open scrub along valleys, roadsides and grassy slopes at elevations around 450 to 3000 meters as a small sized cool to cold growing terrestrial with ellipsoid to cylindric, pubescent tubers giving rise to an erect, basally sheathed stem carrying 3 to 4, clustered, ovate to ovate-elliptic, basally narrowing leaves that blooms in the spring through summer on a terminal, densely to subdensely many flowered, 5" [to 12.5 cm] long, glabrous inflorescence with lanceolate floral bracts
Differs from P goodyerioides in the large saccate lip base and the lateral stigmas.
