Common Name Humblot's Phaius [French Orchid Collector - Madagascar 1900's]

Found in Madagascar and the Comoros Islands at altitudes of 1000 to 2000 meters in wet semi-deciduous forests and mossy forests where it flowers in spring through fall, needing more water in June-Oct while growing. This species is a medium to large sized, cool to hot growing terrestrial with spheric pseudobulbs carrying elliptic-lanceolate plicate, acute leaves that blooms on an erect, robust, to 3' [90 cm] and more, apical, racemose inflorescence with several to many [7 to 10] flowers opening in succession over a long period.
