A medium sized, cool to warm growing terrestrial from the humid shady floors of broadleafed, evergreen, humid primary forests in soils dampened by mists, on moss covered logs in scrub and in splash along steep watercourses in the Assam, eastern Himalayas, Nepal, Myanamar, Thailand, Malaysia, China, Laos, Vietnam, Java, Moluccas, the Philippines, Sulawesi, Sumatra, New Guinea, New Caledonia, Samoa, Vanuatu, Taiwan, Ryukyu Isalnds and Japan in primary and secondary forests at elevations of 200 to 3400 meters, with conical to ovoid-cylindric pseudobulbs carrying 3 to 8, elliptic-lanceolate, acuminate, plicate, yellow to white spotted leaves and blooms on a to 3' [90 cm] tall, erect, basal, laxly several to many flowered inflorescences with persistent bracts and several to many, yellow, long lived, fragrant flowers that occur in the winter and spring.
