Common Name The Few Flowered Phaius

Found in Penninsular Malaysia, Java and Sumatra in deep hill and low2er montane forest near rivers at elevations around 500 to 1900 meters in the Cameron Highlands as a large to giant sized, hot to cool growing terrestrial orchid with close set, basally thickened, terete stems carrying about five to 6, plicate, oblong, acuminate leaves and blooms on a basal, to 8" [25 cm] long, several to many [8 to 15] successively flowered inflorescence with persistent bractss.
The flower in the photo is old and as such the lip has begun to fold up. Normally it is quite open and broad.
