Found in China, Korea, Japan and the Ryukyu Islands in forests on grassy slopes nad along hillsides at elevations of 800 to 2500 meters as a medium sied, warm to cold growing terrestrial with an erect, glabrous stem carrying 3 to 6, elliptic to oblong, herbaceous, amplexcaul and basally clasping leaves that blooms in the spring on a terminal, racemose, 10 to 20 flowered inflorescence with narrowly lanceolate bracts that are much longer than the flowers
