Common Name Duplooy's Pleurothallis [One of Original Collector's of Species current]
Flower Size .15" [3 mm]
Found in Belize and Costa Rica at elevations around 760 meters as a mini-miniature sized, warm growing, shortly repent epiphyte with erect ramicauls enveloped by 2, thin, tubular sheaths and carrying a single apical, suberect to prostrate, lens-shaped, elliptical, subacute to obtuse, cuneate below into the petiolate base leaf that blooms in the summer on a filiform, arising laterally from the ramicaul, .8 to 1" [2 to 2.5 cm] long, subcongested, successively few flowered inflorescence with as long as the pedicel floral bracts.
"The species was previously known only from Belize. It is closely related to the widely distributed P. barbulata (Lindl.) Luer, from which it is distinguished by the larger inflorescences surpassing the leaves (vs. as long as or shorter than the leaves), the prostrate leaves (vs. erect) and the larger flowers with free lateral sepals (vs. smaller, with a synsepal). Also, the petals are sharply acute and microscopically ciliate (vs. acute, ciliate). The lip is narrowly elliptical, long-ciliate, and longitudinally channeled (Luer 2006). The Costa Rican plants were found growing on twigs of abandoned Macadamia trees in exposed condition, an unusual habitat for plants of Specklinia.". Bogarin & Karremans 2012
