Common Name Groby's Pleurothallis [English Orchid Enthusiast 1800's]
Flower Size less than 1/8" [4 mm]
Found in Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Brazil, French Guiana, Surinam and Guyana in cool lower cloud forest, piedmont forests and gallery forests at elevations of 60 to 3200 meters as a mini-miniature sized, cold to hot growing, caespitose, epiphytic species with a single, apical, sub-orbicular-oval to elliptic, attenuate to a channeled petiolate base, tridenticulate leaf blooming at most any time of the lear on an apical, with a triangular bract, racemose, 1" to 6" [2 to 8 cm] long, longer than the leaf, fractiflex, simultaneously few flowered inflorescence with oblique, acute, half as long as the pedicel floral bracts.
Part of the Pleurothallis grobyi-picta alliance but distinguished by a small, clumped plat with narrow, shrt stemmed leaves and a more or less flexuous, simultaneously flowered raceme surpassing the leaves. The pale colored flower are small and bilabiate. The synsepal is subacute to obtuse, albeit minutely bifid, the Synsepal of P picta ia acuminate and acute, usually with a purple strip." Luer 2006
Needs to be mounted on treefern and given warm to cool temperatures with good shade, high humidity and ample air movement.
