Common Name The Spotted Ponthieva

Flower Size 1 1/4" [3 cm]

Found from Costa Rica, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador and Peru in forests at elevations of 500 to 3000 meters as a small to medium sized, warm to cold growing terrestrial pubescent terrestrial or occassional epiphytic herb with fleshy, fibrous roots carrying basal, sessile or petiolate, ovate-lanceolate to blanceolate, acute or shortly acuminate leaves that blooms in the late winter and spring on an erect, racemose, 12 to 18" [30 to 45 cm] long, pilose, laxly several [15 to 20] flowered inflorescence with elliptic-lanceolate bracts and quite showy, nonresupinate flowers with glandular-pubescence on the sepals.
