Found in Comoros, Reunion and Madagascar in montane ericaceous scrub at elevations of 1200 to 2450 meters as a small to medium sized, warm to cold growing terrestrial with ovoid-oblong tubers giving rise to a stem enveloped basally by 1 to 2 non-foliaceous sheaths and then 1 to 3 leaf-bearing sheaths carrying flat, oval-acute leaves that blooms in the spring and early summer on a terminal, densely many flowered inflorescence with floral bracts that are the green recurved and cover part of the non-resupinate flower.
