Common Name Steyermark's Selenipedium [American Botanist in Venezuela 20th cent]

Found in Venezuela in cloud forests in sandy soil amongst rocks and fairly open scrubby trees on steep slopes at elevations of 800 to 1800 meters as a large sized, hot to cool growing terrestrial orchid with an elongated, slender stem carrying lanceolate-linear, plicate, acute leaves that blooms on a terminal, short to 10" [to 25 cm] long, successively few flowered inflorescence that are very short lived and have inflated floral bracts.
