Found only in Madagascar at elevations of 400 to 1200 meters growing among rocks in seasonally dry evergreen forests [morning dew is the main source of water for part of the year] as a medium sized, warm to cool growing epiphyte or semilithophytic vandanaceous orchid with husky, basal roots and ones to within 5" of the crown, with a stout stem carrying many leathery, longlasting strap shaped leaves with wavy margins that blooms in the spring in the Northern Hemisphere on a 12" to 16" [30 to 40 cm] long, arching inflorescence with spicy, pleasingly fragrant flowers that turn apricot color with age
