Common Name Warscewicz' Stanhopea [Polish ORchid Collector 1800's]

A medium sized, hot to warm growing epiphyte found in Costa Rica and western Panama in very wet tropical rain forests at elevations of 500 to 1400 meters with pyriform to ovate, sulcate pseudobulbs with a single apical, coriaceous, plicate, ribbed, elliptic-obovate, gradually narrowing belwo into the elongate, petiolate base leaf that blooms on a lateral, pendant, 4 3/4" to 6" [12 to 15 cm] long, racemose, several [to 8] flowered inflorescence arising on a mature pseudobulb that has large, chartaceous bracts, and fragrant short-lived flowers occuring in the summer.
