SUBGENUS Acianthera SECTION Tricarinatae Luer 1986

Characterized by the repent rhizome with erect, more or less laterally compressed above ramicauls giving rise to more or less laterally compressed peduncles and floral bracts, triquetrous ovaries and the tall-carinate sepals, a ligulate lip, an elongate column and a partially covered ventral anther.
