A large sized, ranging, monopodial, terrestrial, terete leafed orchid that is warm to hot growing and likes full sun as it is found in open, swampy areas of Vietnam, Thailand, penninsular Malaya, Sumatra, and Borneo near the seacoast in semi-deciduous and deciduous dry lowland forests and savana-like woodlands in deep peaty soils that submerge annually in freshwater floods at elevations of sealevel to 700 meters with a slender, scrambling, terete, long stem carrying terete, sulcate, mucronate, constricted 3/4" below the apex leaves and blooms in the spring and summer with an axillary, 12" [30 cm] long, sheathed at the base inflorescence that has large bracts with a several [2 to 12], large, showy, long-lived, successively opening flowers.
A poulstice is made with leaves that are heated and applied to sore or rheumatic joints in the Moluccas Islands.
