Found in Myanamar, Sri Lanka, India, China, Nepal and Bhutan at elevations of 780 to 2000 meters as a small to medium sized, warm to cool growing epiphyte with an erect stem enveloped by leafless and leaf-bearing sheaths and carrying, equitant, oblong, coriaceous, unequally bilobed and tridentate apically leaves that blooms inn the spring on an axillary, stout, 2 to 10" [5 to 25 cm] long, laxly many flowered inflorescence
Often cited as a synonym of V parviflora but differs in the larger plant size and certain floral characterstics.
