Found in the eastern Himalayas, India, Sri Lanka and Myanmar moist deciduous forests and coastal forests at elevations of 1500 to 2200 meters as a large to giant sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial reedstem with an elongated, canelike, robust stem, carrying alternating, linear, distichous, coriaceous, channeled, unequally deeply cleft apically leaves that blooms in the spring, summer and fall on a stout, to 2.4 to 4" [6 to 10 cm] long, dense, corymbose, several flowered inflorescence with the hyacynth scented flowers clustered in a ball at the apex.
