Found in Bolivia and Peru on grass and shrub covered rocky slopes and montane wet forests at elevations around 2200 meters as a medium szied, cold growing terrestrial with a stem enveloped by imbricating leaf sheath bases, in a basal rosette, lanceolate, oblanceolate, to ovate, acute, basally clasping leaves that blooms in the summer through fall on an erect, terminal, long-pedunculate, peduncle to 10 to 18" [25 to 45 cm] long, rachis 4 to 5" [10 to 12.5 cm] long, racemose, conic-cylindric, densely many flowered, spicate inflorescence with ovate to ovate-lanceolate, acute floral bractgs and carrying non-resupinate flowers.
