Found in Taiwan, the Chinese Himalayas, Assam, eastern Himalayas, Sikkim, Myanmar, Malaysia, Vietnam, Sumatra and the Philippines in forests at elevations around 2000 meters as a medium sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial with a stem that is slightly swollen at the base and carrying leafless sheaths and carrying 5 to 8, elliptic to elliptic-oblong, acuminate-caudate, subsessile to petiolate base leaves that blooms in the fall and winter on an erect, arising from half way up the stem, puberulent, 3.2 to 8.8" [8 to 22 cm] long, laxy 5 to 15 flowered inflorescence with cauducous, lanceolate, acuminate floral bracts
