Found from southeastern China, Korea, central and southern Japan in montane, mixed pine and broadleafed forests at elevations of 700 to 1600 meters as a small to medium sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial species with sveral alternate, lanceolate, basally clasping leaves that blooms in the late spring on an erect, 4 to 6" long, several flowered, racemose inflorescence carrying fragrant flowers
