Found in Japan, Korea, southwestern Sichuan and eastern Xizang provinces of China, Assam, Bhutan and the eastern Himalayas in evergreen broad-leaves forests in damp areas at elevations of 2500 to 1800 meters as a miniature sized, cold growing leafless terrestrial with an erect, yellow to pale brownish red stem with a few membraneous sheaths that blooms in the summer on an erect, 1.2 to 2" [3 to5 cm] long, few to more than 10 flowered inflorescence with yellow to pale brownish red, narrowly ovate-elliptic, shorter than the ovary, membraneous, acute floral bracts
