Common Name The Black Tongued Chondroscaphe [refers to the black lip]

Found only in Costa Rica and Panama on the Caribbean watershed in moist cloud forests on shady tree trunks at elevations of 800 to 1200 meters as a medium sized, warm to cool growing epiphyte with 5 to 7, oblanceolate, acuminate, conduplicate below into the base leaves that blooms in the spring and fall on a basal, 1 to 1.8" [2.5 to 4.5 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence with an elliptic, acute, infundibuliforme bract at the base and another just above.
