Common Name The Antioquia Cranichis [A department of Colombia where the orchid occurs]

Flower Size .2" [5 mm]

Found in Venezuela, Antioquia, Magdalena, Norte de Santander, Santander, Boyaca, Cundinamarca, Caldas, Valle de Cauca, Cauca, Nariño and Putumayo departments of Colombia and Azuay, Bolivar, Cañar, and Tungurahua provinces of Ecuador at elevations around 1500 to 3500 meters as a medium sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial with 1 to 2 basal, suberect, ovate, subacuminate, shortly cordate basally, glabrous, gradually narrowing below into the petiolate base leaves that blooms on an erect, terminal, thick, peduncle 20.2 to 22.8" [51 to 57 cm] long, glabrous in the lower half, densely glandular above, provided with 3 to 7, distant shaething bracts, rachis to 3.2 to 5.6" [8 to 14 cm] long, densely many flowered inflorescence with lanceolate, acuminate, glabrous, shorter than the ovary floral bracts.

"The species is characterized by the 3 veined dorsal and lateral sepals. The petals are densely and softly pubescent-papillate along both margins except at the base and the apex. C antioquensis resembles Cranichis ciliata but it is stronger and fleshier in all parts, with smaller flowers and different petals, lip and a thicker gynoostemium.

The photos by Alex Mora Mendez and Karl Senghas are absolutely correct, the photo by Alex Reynolds without hairy petals and with the longer lip is suspect as it came from Peru where to date the species has not been recorded according to references available to me at this time.
