Common Name Mandon's Cranichis [Gustave Mandon 1799-1867 French Botanist and Collector in Bolivia]

Found in Cundinamarca department of Colombia and Cochabamba Department of Bolivia at elevations of 2650 to 3200 meters as a medium sized, cold growing terrestrial with 1 to 2, oblong to ovate, slightly oblique, cordate below into the narrowly canaliculate, petiolate base leaves that blooms in the fall on an erect, delicate, terete, peduncle 11.2 to 19.2" [28 to 48 cm] long, provided with 5 to 6 acuminate sheathing bracts that are apically glandular-pilose, rachis 4.8" [12 cm] long, cylindrical, subdensely many flowered inflorescence with narrowly lanceolate, acuminate, as long as the ovary floral bracts and carrying flowers with maroon tepals at the base and white at the apex.
"C mandonii is esily confused with C pleioneura but can be distinguished by the sparsely glandular ovary, sparsely pubescent sepals and minutely ciliate papillate margins of the petals." Szlachetko & Kolanowska 2020
