Found in Cauca and Risaralda departments of Colombia and Merida state of Venezuela in montane forests at elevations of 2400 to 2500 meters as a small sized, cold growing terrestrial with 2 basal, erect,-patent, ovate to oblong-ovate, acute to shortly acumminate, rounded below into the narrowly canaliculate petiolate base leaves that blooms in the late spring and late summer and early fall on an erect to slightly flexuous, terminal, peduncle 9.4" [23.5 cm] long, provided with 5 to 8, apically densely glandular shetahing bracts, rachis to .26" [6.5 cm] long, cylindrical, subdensely many flowered inflorescence with lasnceolate, acuminate, glandular, shorter than the ovary floral bracts and carrying small, inconspicuous flowers.

"C monophylla, C stictophylla and C ovatilabia are morhologically similar species and rather difficult to determine. As far as we could detect they can be separated by the sepals surface, which is papillate on the outer surface in C ovatilabia and smooth in both C monophylla and C stictophylla. All three may be conspecific.
