Common Name The Itatiaia Cyclopogon [A town In Rio de Janiero state of Brazil]

Flower Size .2" [5 mm]

Found in Sao Paulo and Parana' states of Brazil at elevations of 2100 meters as a small sized, cold growing terrestrial with basal, 4, erect-patent, ovate-elliptic, slighty acute, rounded below into the thin pseudopetiolate base leaves that blooms in the winter on a terminal, erect, straight to slightly sinuous, peduncle 8.4 to 10" [21 to 25 cm] long, enveloped by 5, acuminate, amplexicaul sheathing bracts, rachis 2 to 3.6" [5 to 9 cm] long, 15 to 20 flowered inflorescence with suberect, lanceolate, acuminate, slightly longer to equal to the ovaries floral bracts

The lip of this species and that of Cyclopogon iguapensis are quite similar however, wider at the base and more emarginated that C iguapensis and it also lacks the field of pappilae in the center of the terminal lobe of C itatiaiensis and instead has in the centre of the isthmus 2 small, dentiform calli. In general appearance C itatiaiensis could be confused with Hapalorchis lineatus but it has a very different labellum and lacks the basal auricles.
