Common Name Spotted Lady's Slipper - In China Zi Dian Shao Lan

Found in northwestern Canada, Alaska and the Aluetians to Japan, central Russia, eastern Russia, Mongolia, Korea, China, eastern Himalayas and Bhutan in open birch forests or open grasslands and woodlands at eleavtions of 1000 to 4100 meters where it grows as a miniature to small sized, cold growing terrestrial with a pubescent stem carrying 2 subopposite, elliptic to elliptic-ovate, pubescent on veins below, glabrous above, blue green, acute to acuminate leaves that blooms in the later spring and early summer on a slender stalked, terminal, densely glandular-pubescent, 2.8 to 5.2" [7 to 13 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence with the flower subtended by a ciliate, leafy, ovate-lanceolate minutely ciliateacute to acuminate, longer than the ovary floral bract.

One of the most widespread of the genus recognized by it's subopposing 2 leaves and the white flower with purple spots with narrowly ovate petals and a distinctive urceolate lip.
