Common Name Garcia Perez's Funkiella [Mexican, José García Pérez, botanist and former Curator of the herbaria CHAPA (Colegio de Postgraduados, Montecillos) and SLPM (Universidad Autónoma de San Luis Potosí)

Found in San Luis Potosi state of Mexico on rocks covered with mosses and lichens on a north-northeast facing, 30-45° slope at elevations of 2000 to 2050 meters as a small to medium sized, cold growing litho-terrestrial with 1 to 3, fasciculate, fusiform, obtuse, sometimes somewhat irregular, dull yellow, glabrous, tuberoid roots giving rise to deciduous, absent at flowering time, when present 1 or less commonly 2 per plant, slightly fleshy, shortly petiolate; petiole pale green, channeled, blade grayish green, lustrous, irregularly bullate, ovate-elliptic, acute leaves that blooms in the spring on a terminal, arising from the tip of the fascicle of roots, erect, 5.2 to 13.6" [13 to 34 cm ] long, long-pedunculate; peduncle 4 to 9.6" [10 to 24 cm ] long, glabrous, covered at base by a scarious, appressed, dark brown, obtuse to acute, remaining peduncle partially covered by 4 to 7 dull white to pale green, appressed, acute bracts; rachis glabrous, more or less one-sided, 1.52 to 4" [3.8 to 10 cm] long, successively 5 to 13 flowered inflorescence with about 3 flowers open at any one time and with pale green, sometimes with brownish midvein, glabrous, ovate, acuminate, 1-veined ,clasping and slightly shorter than the ovaries floral bracts.,
" Similar to Funkiella faucisanguinea but differs in the glabrous peduncle, rachis, ovary, and outer surface of the sepals; the dull brownish thickened area on the labellum hypochile; the prominent digitiform papillae on the ventral surface of the column; and the proportionately shorter, parallel pollinia."
