Common Name The White Gomphichis

Flower Size

Found in Antioquia, Santander, Cauca and Valle de Cauca departments of Colombia and Venezuela in montane forests at elevations of 1700 to 3300 meters as a medium to large sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial with rosulate, lanceolate, acute, long petiolate base leaves that blooms in the late summer fall and early winter on an erect, slender, delicate, 13.2 to 28" [33 to 70 cm] long, provided with 7, glandular in upper part sheathing bracts, rachis laxly to densely many flowered inflorescence with ovate, acute floral bracts.

"G. alba belongs to a group of species that have almost glabrous sepals, sometimes sparsely pubescent in the basal part and densely ciliolate petals along the margins. However it can be easily separated from others by the ovate to elliptic-ovate floral bracts that are shorter than the ovary."
