Found in Cundinamarca department of Colombia in lakeside paramo on shrubs at elevations around 2850 to 3100 meters as a giant sized, cold growing epiphyte with 4, in the basal 1/6th of the strem, linear-oblanceolate, acute, petiolate base leaves that blooms in the late spring and early summer on an erect, peduncle glabrous, 40" [100 cm] long, provided with numerous, cauline sheathing bracts, rachis 7.6" [19 cm] long, many flowered inflorescence with ovate-lanceolate, acute, almost twice longer than the ovary floral bracts and carrying small, green, externally densely glandular flowers.
"Somewhat allied to Gomphichis altissima but G epiphytica has an oblong, ovate-ligulate lip, much broader petals with both margins being ciliate and the gynostemium is ciliate on the inner surface at the base only." Szlachetko & Kolanowska 2019
