Found in Cesar, Boyaca, Antioquia, Cundinamarca, Cauca departments of Colombia in high montane forests, cloud forests and disturbed paramo at elevations around 2800 to 4300 meters as a medium to just large sized, cold growing terrestrial with 2 to 3 basal and 1 to 2 cauline, oblanceolate to oblong-lanceolate, acute, petiolate base leaves that blooms in the fall and winter on a terminal, erect, slender, provided with 7 cauline sheaths, to 18" [45 cm] long, glabrous below, glandular towards the apex, densely many flowered inflorescence with ovate-lanceolate, acute, sparsely pubescent, somewhat longer than the ovary floral bracts and carrying small flowers.
"Appears to be similar to Gomphichis traceyae but easily separated by the 2 small baal calli smaller than 1/5th of the lip length asnd an epichile with a thin apex. Additionally it has lender and sparesly ciliate gynostemium veersus a stout, pubescent to densely pubescent in G traceyae."Szlachetko & Kolanowska 2019
