Found in Boyacá, Cauca, Cesar, Cundinamarca and Magdalena departments of Colombia in grassy cloud forests, shrubby cloud forests and montane forests at elevations around 2600 to 3800 meters as a medium sized, cold growing terrestrial with 5 to 6, basal, oblong-lanceolate to oblong-elliptic, acute, tapering towards the shortly petiolate base leaves that blooms in the later spring, summer and fall on a terminal, erect, with several glabrous below, glandular above bracts, to 14 to 16" [35 to 40 cm] long, rachis cylindrical, many flowered inflorescence with lanceolate, acute, sparsely glandular, longer than the ovary floral bracts and carrying relatively small, densely pubescent externally flowers.
