Found in Boyacá, Cesar, Cundinamarca, Magdalena, Nariño, Norte de Santander and Quindio departments of Colombia in cloud forests and paramo in mosses at elevations around 1050 to 3900 meters as a large sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial with basal, oblong-lanceolate to linear-lanceolate, acute to subacute, tapering towards the base leaves that blooms in the winter and fall on a terminal, erect, peduncle 34" [85 cm] long, provided with several glabrous below, glandular above sheathing bracts, rachis to 6" [15 cm] long, cylindrical, densely many flowered inflorescence with ovate-lanceolate, acute, pubescent, almost twice as long as the ovary floral bracts and carrying externally pubescent flowers especially near the base.
